Genuine United States Mint 1948-1963 Silver Franklin Half Dollar (J0522)
This offer includes the history of this coinage; Certificate of Authenticity and the 1951 Silver Franklin Half Dollar. Please supersize for details.
This coin holds several records in the history of U.S. Mint coinage. It is the last Half Dollar design with all coins minted of solid .900 Fine Silver, and the first circulating U.S. coin to honor a person who had not been president. The Franklin Half Dollar also is one of only three U.S. coins not to comply with the 25-year minimum for design. Production stopped early so tha a new design honoring the late President John F. Kenney could be rushed into circulation. Ben Franklin was actively involved in the creation of America's first coinage. He urged that coins should have a variety of different slogans, such as "A penny saved is a penny got" and "Early to bed early to rise" so that they would not become boring.
